(Un)edited Moments

I'm currently 1st yr graduate student studying for my doctorate degree in physical therapy (DPT) in a 3yr program so I might have some posts about it here and there. Ask me or teach me PT stuff or anything in general and I'll think you are awesome!

A place to share my thoughts, feelings, complaints, experiences with life and be random instead of killing trees with diaries (as if I don't do that enough with printing stuff for school...)

A place to reblog things that i like, support, and follow. I love green tea, keroppi, disney, and BIGBANG just to name a few :]

Learning Experience

I have always read about motor vehicle accidents causing whiplash among other things and who knew that I would have gotten into one a couple of weeks ago myself due to my negligence in driving. Merging lanes in NY highways is like the scariest thing here for me here. But good thing that the other driver and I were okay but I was literally shaking from head to toe because I did quite some damage to his car and my car. The person was pretty nice about it considering that I’m the “young reckless driver” according to my age but everything went smoothly in terms of exchanging insurance info and filing the police report.

As they say, whiplash does not come until later so I had some swelling the second day. Decided to give myself some simple PT by icing every 4-6 hours, sleep supine and sit in proper posture, and took some NSAIDs (advil) for a couple of days and it went away, which was a relief.

Though that went away, apparently from a combination of anxiety from the accident, and stress/eating habits in general, I gave myself GERD/acid reflex so now I have to watch the dieting and the stressing. Need to limit myself from the caffeine, tomato foods, fatty foods, and chocolates. Sad but I’ll live.

Fixed the car and relieved the symptoms. Lesson learned well.

The So-Called “Group-Work” and “Doing Bad On An Exam”

Let the ranting session begin woo~!

Last week my group and I met to split the work on our presentation and specifically put a deadline for our parts to be done by last Friday. YAY me for being the only one actually finished on time which is ironic because my harddrive on my laptop crashed on me last week so I had no access to anything. No one had their shit done and so we agreed to meet yesterday but of course, if one person bails, everyone bails. Hence, no meeting took place and only half the material done. And yet I still get lectured by one of them that we need “organization” in our slides and how we are presenting our parts. WOW REALLY? REALLY?

So now today we finally met after class, the day before it is due, and instead of actually doing what were suppose to be doing, my group was so awesome enough to be in a rush to either finish homework due that day, late to doctor appointments, and have no slides/resources ready to put together. While I was trying to work with what they have, 2 of them had to talk about an exam we had last week and how “bad” they did. I call this the epic “Asian fail” in academics I have encountered so far in my life because they were discussing how they did bad aka scoring high 90s on their exams. REALLY GUYS?  I was beyond pissed first for the lack of teamwork and now the exam scores.

I can say this time its 90% “I” in my group presentation thank you very much!

PT Interventions- Heat Modalities

Today in my PT Interventions class, we had heat and ice modalities lab session and it was quite fun trying out all the modalities. I got to try the surgical heat pack and the paraffin on my back and my right hand and it felt really good pretending to be the patient for a bit. I’ve been straining my back a bit and my hands have been hurting sometimes from writing and typing a lot on my computer for classes/studying so the modalities really helped today :]

The second session is next week so I’m going to try the other heat and ice modalities on my hands, shoulders and knees next week as a stress reliever and of course, to learn how to properly use the modalities too since I have to pass the competency tests for each modality next week woot woot!

Abdomen Palpations

My partner had to touch my stomach fat/muffin top/fat rolls to find my rectus abdominis aka 6-pack abdomens that all humans have deep in there, I was so ticklish that she left me to find another partner…my partner came back tho eventually cuz I did pretty well (stayed still without laughing) with the rest tho at least~! :]

The guys in our class totally got stared down by those perverted OT girls and their hormones but they didn’t molest the guys like they did in the beginning of the semester. I feel bad for the guys in my PT class- poor souls getting undressed by the OT students’ eyes.
